| 190920 4 DAY WORK WEEK | The 5 day work week came in 1940. Americans working full-time are working more hours than anyone else in the developed world. In 2018 that was 106 more hours than Japan’s work force, 248 more hours than the British, and 423 more hours than Germans. Studies show, the extra hours don’t auto equate to more productivity and/or efficiency. Today the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of labor unions in the U.S. will release a report in favor of the 4 day (40% of U.S. employees want this), 32-hour work week. Why? The theory is it would redistribute work hours to the underemployed an it would actually make workers more productive. Also, 3 day weekends sound amazing.
