Over the years I've been working with kids on the spectrum I've discovered many of them do really well with the inclusion of task-based unique games and activities, especially those with a short attention span. Rather than putting the child's focus on movement and me using language around what movements to do, I like to add games in that still get them performing essential natural human movements but keep their attention on tasks. .
One of my favourite ways to do this is using homemade treasure maps (with burnt edges to try and look authentic!) and providing 'treasure'. The child is asked to follow the steps on the map in order to find the treasure I'd hidden before they arrived. It always works a treat, kids absolutely love it and they're still getting in lots of crawling, jumping, wrestling, climbing, balancing and running.
Today I did this with one of my new clients - young Cooper. I was shocked at how much he loved the whole activity and finding the treasure! He's apparently told everyone he's come in contact with since about it and is over the moon with what he did and found! I couldn't be happier with this result!
I definitely don't take a conventional approach with the kids I train, and enjoy finding new ways to provide the best help I can give to the kids and their families.
Next week's session is including finding Troll treasure!
If you'd like to talk to me about possibly working with and help your child, please do soon as I only have limited sessions available for the start of 2020.

Sensory stories are another great gift for a child whose learning and play are at the sensory level of their development.
There are some good articles about putting together sensory stories here:
Gifts like these are something a child or young person can use for a long time!
Irelan can not get enough of this play room! She was so excited that Mama and Sissy cleaned it out so she could come play too. She carries around the toy food and its the cutest thing! Mama played peek-a-boo with her in the toy house and Sissy loves to go in with her and pretend to be her mommy.
