latest and greatest, and it’ll go down as either the hottest or second hottest game of 2019!
* Conquer mechanism. It just feels awful - I could literally be at the end of military track, be equipped with nukes, and if I try to conquer a territory of a civ that’s just discovered archery, I’ll lose if they play a trap card. I understand the need to streamline games, but given the theme here (military/combat), it just feels poorly implemented.
* Not an “epic” civ game (Stonemaier’s description, not mine!). I think the marketing for this game definitely created lofty expectations, and I felt this one wasn’t met. I haven’t played many civ games (just Through the Ages and the computer game version of Sid Meier’s Civ back in the early 2000s), and this definitely doesn’t feel as civvy as those games. I think there’s a skeleton of a civ game here, but that’s about it.
* Lack of player interaction. I actually don’t have issues with multiplayer solitaire Euros, but it seems a bit odd for a civ game (see above). It’d be more thematic if one civ can affect what another does, but it’s really not the case here.
