Alter Bridge - WALK THE SKY (2019)
Alter Bridge to me has always been a mood band. Their music is not my usual go to, but sometimes it's comfort music, for example, their first album is fired up with alt metal bangers but also warm love songs and relatable sad songs. Their lyrics are far from brilliant, their song structure is far from unique, their production is far from revolutionary, but somehow this band dig up a lot of interest from me, because of its energy and feel.
The singles that came out promoting "Walk The Sky" haven't been so good in my opinion, with the main reason being the poor production that I expected was enhanced when the full album came out. It gladly did.
I didn't catch a sequenced narrative in the lyrics, but the album follows this theme of epicness with the song titles and choruses, something like "get out of your comfort zone and walk the sky" (at least that's what I got).
"Wouldn't You Rather", the first single, has a really heavy vibe with its riff but it's not really that memorable. "Pay No Mind" came right after and I disliked it at first, but it grew on me. It has an amazing capacity of sticking in your head, after three listens I pretty much knew the whole lyrics, and that's a point for Alter Bridge. The song is catchy and has a lot of different melodies that gets my attention and definitely sounds memorable.
"Take the Crown" is one of the brightest moments in this album, a lot of light/heavy moments, and I always love this contrast when done right.
"In the Deep" to me was the weakest single, with cringey moments that sound like an AB cliche or uninspiration.
