JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs
JPEGMAFIA’s newest release solidified himself as one of the best new school artists and is one of the best albums this year. I’m very disappointed. Peggy seamlessly blends experimental, eccentric production with over-the-top vocals and a surprising amount of conceptual genius in this album, and it’s a hell of a listen. Even just looking at the track titles, you know you’re in for a treat. Peggy capitalizes on the current meme culture but it doesn’t feel like the humor will fade out of relevancy anytime soon. This is clearly shown with songs like “Jesus Forgive Me, I Am a Thot” and “BasicBitchTearGas”. Like I mentioned earlier, the production is one of the best aspects of this album. It’s violent and crazy but softens for the emotional, deeper parts. If Peggy didn’t explore anything lyrically, he would almost become another part of the production, but he chooses to stand out. This album is definitely better than Veteran, and I highly recommend checking this album out. The song “PTSD” is one of the biggest highlights of the album. It explores the mental illness that gives the song its name and talks about the causes for it in his own life. Pair that with some emotional production and you’ve got yourself the best song on the album. This emotion, humor, and eccentricity come together for a fantastic listen. I do think it’s been slightly overrated, though. Some people are calling this one of the best albums of the decade, and I disagree, but it doesn’t make it any less of a good album.
