, September 21st 1987 - Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe released 10,000 advance copies of #Barcelona
single, in #Spain
– which sold out in 3 hours .
Both singers are amplified, but Mercury is able to exploit the #microphone
to make it an extension of himself in a way that is totally #alien
to Caballe .Mercury sings in a way that #classical
singers would describe as #musical;
he sings in a variety of RP (unlike most other rock singers) and he phrases according to the #ebb
and flow of the #music,
with a huge #dynamic #range.

When Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe duet on 'Barcelona' (1987), one hears not only the #rock/classical
dichotomy but also the extent to which each singer can draw on elements in his/her own #tradition
to approach the other. © ✒ John Shepherd .
I love how well both writers have described how this great duo collaboration. I don`t feel any dichotomy to be honest but I can sense their wonderful voices merging into each other beautifully. And I love the description of how marvelously and strongly Freddie uses his voice. Oh and yes : This sales is another example when those envious people who always love to slander on Freddie`s solo or rather then Queen work sales are free to cry at his all time success. Sorry not sorry. Hail to the king. 👑 ❤Good night all with this beautiful photo of Freddie and Montsy by 📷 ©Picture Alliance Dpa
