Hello everyone. For a while now I had taken a small break from social media as I had a desire to step back for a bit. I wanted to shape new priorities, focus on training, and my schooling. I felt over time I had lost connection with my true inner self, the one I enjoy expressing here on this account. I consider my inner self to be the one with relentless work ethic and intensity that came from such a humble beginning. I have since re-shaped my focuses and priorities, and I am ready to return to something I am passionate about, helping others and relentless hard training! So if you would, stick with me and we’ll take this journey together because I am proclaiming a new goal as of right now. I am currently weighing in at about 153lbs. My goal is to achieve 160lbs by December. Candid moment: While I was healing after Dad passed, I tried a couple of antidepressants, which gave me a spare tire, which made me more depressed. I went off the meds and I'd kind of given up caring about losing it, just wanted to feel healthy and get into a better exercise/diet routine (which I'm still struggling to do). Although I was down on myself for a while about it. Not today. Getting back to my best day by day. Thought I would never get back to any balance. And never thought I would see my abs again. But maybe, just maybe, I might grow even stronger. Who knew? We can heal with time. However, remember that your increased activity levels will mean you should probably be drinking more water. . . Should I be sore after a workout? . WHY am I not sore after training? Am I not training properly? Is something wrong with me or with my training program? . This is a common question and the answer is .. well it depends! . There are various variables that can associate with muscle soreness to the type of exercise performed. •Was the type of exercise or movement new to you or what you are normally accustomed to? •How difficult was the exercise or load for you to execute? •Have you had a long hiatus since you last trained etc.. . Muscle soreness .. known as DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is the inflammation from the microscopic tears of the muscle and the pain and soreness felt after a strenuous or unaccustomed workout. . DOMS typically peaks at the 48hr-mark which are most usually brought on from the eccentric phase (longest stretch/lengthening under load) of the movement executed. The Romanian deadlift is a great example. . Are you making progress without the DOMS? Again it depends. . Muscle soreness is only one component of the bigger picture. Mechanical tension, metabolic stress and the level of performance/percieved exercution when training is where your focus should be at. . Ask yourself .. Are you progressing through your lifts? Are you getting stronger? Are you performing more reps with the same weight? Are you seeing changes in the mirror or in the clothing you wear? . While muscle damage is only ONE component of hypertrophy shift your focus on tracking and logging your training sessions consistently. . Muscle soreness should not be the indicator of a great workout. Progression is!
