🧤When should you step forward or backwards into your set position?
.
⬆️Stepping forward is important when the attacker is striking the ball off of the ground and they are within the 18 yard box (varies based off of your ability level, situation, etc.) because it allows you to close down the angle and give the attacker less room to score.
.
⬇️Stepping backwards is important when the attacker is striking the ball out of the air, either by a volley or header, because it gives you more time to react, and less chance of having a dipping ball scoring over your head.
.
🔑The key to both of these are GETTING SET because this allows you to have to correct footing to move/dive in any direction.
.
🧠Here is a great drill to practice all of this by yourself in a reactive game-like environment to improve your focus, cognitive processing, decision making, and transfer to competition.
