Eve by Rapsody
After her debut album with Roc Nation earned two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song, Rapsody is back with Eve, an homage to impactful black woman from athletes to civil rights activists to authors. Over samples of Phil Collins, Nina Simone, Herbie Hancock, and Tupac, Rapsody is lyrically brilliant spreading messages of black and female empowerment. On “Afeni,” she spits, “We ain’t your hoes or your bitches, trophies or meant for pimpin’ / Recognize a gift from God outweighs a birthday or a Christmas / To protect our lives you gon’ take it to the limit?” Line after line, she uplifts and enlightens demonstrating her gift as a premier emcee. Last week, in an interview with the Associated Press, Rapsody said, “Who’s the greatest active emcee in the game night now? I’m gonna say me... but I respect my brothers.” #rapsody#eve#rocnation#oprah#whoopi#serena#ibtihaj#sojourner#tupac

Rapsody - Ibtihaj
The latest album from an artist who’s definitely a rappers rapper just dropped recently and her album is a homage to powerful, historic and famous black women who I imagine she would cite as influencing her to be the women she is. The first single is Ibtihaj, named after the first Muslim-American woman to wear a hijab in competition whilst representing USA in fencing at the 2016 Olympics. The song is produced by 9th Wonder and features GZA, D’Angelo and Mary J Blige too, quite the roster! The song feels like a welcome motivation and inspiration in the current climate of world politics and Rapsody delivers it with the usual easy flair. Definitely worth checking out the album.

Yemi’s track of the week: @rapsody ft D’Angelo & @therealgza - Ibtihaj
These days artists are recreating classic rap tunes and ruining what made them great in the first place (ahem DJ Khaled). Recreating the classic tune Liquid Swords, Rapsody flips the sample amazingly, and even gets a verse from GZA, kinda like a Liquid Swords follow up. Been listening to this tune and Rap’s new album Eve all week - a truly dope work of art and homage to some important women. Oh and this will probably be the only time I pick a song featuring D’Angelo, I know Peter’s somewhere smiling, rubbing his hands like Birdman as he reads this. - Yemi
EP 14 is out now. Link in bio.
This gotta go down as one of the greatest album intros 😤
Rapsody - Nina

This GZA verse on Rapsody’s EVE album is pure architecture. He starts it with a perfect example of imagery, and kicks major game about the craft of emceeing. Salute to the Genius, and to Rapsody for an amazing album! 👐🏾🐝👐🏾🐝👐🏾🐝
