The 3rd annual HERA Fest rocks @citywinerydc
with an all-female lineup on 9/22!
DC-based musician Cathy DiToro was feeling like a minority in a male-dominated industry when she saw a need to connect women in the local music scene. Cathy began by hosting a "ladies' night of music” and over the course of two years, she had networked with so much talent that she wanted to showcase them all together at a bigger event—much bigger.
From this desire came @ProjectHERA,
a nonprofit for women and girls in music, with a mission to celebrate, promote + empower women in music, of all ages. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
hosts HERA Fest 2019 on 9/22, which marks the third annual female-driven music festival for ProjectHERA.
ProjectHERA also hosts a monthly open mic, holds workshops, + curates female-fueled shows throughout the year. And like all of ProjectHERA’s events, HERA Fest 2019 is free for concert-goers age 18 and under. “We are dedicated to inspiring young girls to chase their musical dreams,” Cathy says. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cathy is passionate about so many elements of her work with ProjectHERA, but among her favorites: “Connecting female musicians who don't know each other, who then form bands or build shows together.” And on a grander scale: “Feeling a part of a larger movement and a positive and encouraging environment that has naturally formed through kind, strong, dedicated + talented female musicians.”
