This is my perhaps my favorite photo from the @arlingtonflyin.
It is also one of my only photos.
I spent this past weekend mostly offline. Enjoying the moments. It was especially wonderful given that so much of my airshow experience is usually spent crook-necked, eyes down, buried in re-creating a moment for others to experience on their phone.
This was the moment my daughter took ownership of aviation. Truly. I have video to share soon of our amazing transit thanks to @hom409
But this was different. We’d spent the last day with @hom409
looking at airplanes. He and my husband fawned over the Beech stagger wing as the owner recreated the reconstruction of it stitch-by-50-yard-stitch. Elle and I made buttons to wear, looked at @vansaircraftinc
RVs, and shiny metal planes impossibly polished. A man told us about Brylcream hair paste pilots used to wear.
The BBQ and band over on the east side of the airport was incredible. Hom’s friends welcomed us with open arms. Fed us. Made us a part of the family. Invited us back next year.
And my daughter, after a weekend full of living an aviation life to its brim... decided she owned the space. The ramp, her ramp. The planes, an extension of her reach. She asked permission, but hesitated not-at-all to climb into the Rocket not because she was tired and needed to rest, but because she wanted to sit in an airplane. Confidence.
Endless thanks are deserved. To Hom, Kyle, BG Keith, Allyson, Carol, Terry, Dan, and more... not to mark the finality of the moment, but to celebrate the beginning of the movement.
