I debated back and forth over whether or not I should share what I’ve been up to. However, not everyone is a Power Ranger eficionado so instead of withholding extremely fun surprises until the end, I thought we’d chat about the one and only Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver.
Within the Power Rangers show there was a five-part episode series called Green with Evil which introduced the Green Ranger as one of Rita Repulsa’s henchmen. It makes sense... if Zordon can recruit teenagers and put them in tight colorful outfits, why couldn’t Rita do the same? So the Rangers find themselves head to head with the fairly powerful Green Ranger (who viewers thought was a real hottie) and his own zord - the Dragonzord. This zord was controlled by Tommy from outside of the zord with Tommy’s magical flute sword. (Describing this sounds oh so funny. Can you imagine trying to sell this idea to a producer?) Anyway, over these five episodes the Rangers battle it out with Tommy. Ultimately, Megazord triumphs. Sweet, sweet victory. Tommy then realized he was under Rita’s spell and makes the switch to the good guys team to helps defend the world from Rita, Goldar, Ivan Ooze, and anyone else who crossed their path.
So why is this important? Well, other than the fact that this was a huge event within the Power Rangers show, it is also the entire premise of this painting. And guess what. ITS DONE! I’m taking it to the photographer tomorrow and I’m hoping to have it available soon!
Did you grow up watching Power Rangers? If you missed out it’s currently on Netflix, episodes 17-21. Grab some popcorn. The dialogue is a doozy. 😆
