Love this mysterious advertisement on the London Underground. If you don’t know what it’s for, I won’t spoil it, but it’s pretty cool when you find out or dial the number. It reminded me of Cicada 3301 (now that’s a REAL mystery - and one that still never got solved, even when its code got cracked. Do check it out...) and the strange pharmaceutical ads that appeared before Limitless. And one of the abiding memories I have of the strangeness of my childhood, the viral-before-the-Internet sensation that was Kit Williams’ notorious ‘Masquerade’ riddle. Some of these were commercials and campaigns; some weren’t; and some, we’ll never know what they were. In Lithuania back in the ‘90s, I asked a friend what they’d noticed about the end of communist rule, on a day-to-day basis. She listed a whole lot of things, large and small, and then paused and said, And the streets are more colourful and interesting to walk on, because now we have a lot more advertising.” At the time, I guess I laughed and said something like, “Bloody hell, just you wait, that’ll get old quick.” But sometimes I’m reminded that little riddles and double-takes and shaggy dog stories like this campaign are art too. And the streets and trains and walls seem a little more vivid. #london#signs#anima#dreams#poster#advertising#advert#advertisement#mystery#dream#research#riddles#riddle#clues#mysterious#cryptic#technology#science#radiohead#thomyorke#viral#cicada3301#code#masquerade#kitwilliams#limitless#coldwarhistory#1990s#communism#everydayepiphanies
