Taking a break from posting about cards today to talk about one of our newest favorites: Tapestry!
Tonight we witnessed the epic story of the Nomads versus the Craftsmen. The craftsmen were quite technologically advanced choosing to advance in that while also improving a bit in science, exploration, and militarization. Meanwhile, the Nomads doubled down on a conquering strategy with their tapestry telling the story of their journey from pillaging and plundering to pirate rule to a marriage of state with the much more technologically advanced Craftsmen. Through their efforts, the Nomads were able to achieve space travel and conquer much of the board, placing down buildings throughout the world. With this work, they triumphed over their rivals, 298-216.
There’s a lot of recent discussion about the pros and cons of Tapestry, and while we recognize the downsides, we always seem to enjoy ourselves. The randomness is mitigated by more knowledge of the game and by our house rule to do “draw 2, pick 1” on the tapestry cards. The satisfaction of successfully executing an advancement strategy on a couple of tracks coupled with the sheer beauty of the game means this will continue to come back to our table for quite a while.
